Impression 5 is a hands-on learning environment that challenges its visitors to experience, discover, and explore the world in which they live. Impression 5 achieves this by producing hands-on exhibits and participatory programs.

Afterschool Math Program (ASMP)

This year, the Capital Area Science and Math Center (CASM) and Impression 5 Science Center have teamed up to create the Afterschool Math Program (ASMP), a dynamic, math-focused after-school program for fourth and fifth graders in the mid-Michigan area.  The program's teams are:

  • Westwood - Portland
  • Cavanaugh Elementary - Lansing
  • East Olive - St. Johns
  • Sheridan Rd.  - Lansing
  • Perry Elementary - Perry

 Throughout the fall and winter, students from this program will learn about applications of math concepts, create an exhibit that displays those concepts, and visit Impression 5 regularly to continue their hands-on exploration of math.  The following information is meant to provide details about these upcoming sessions at Impression 5.  Check back regularly for updates, links to photo collections of the program's students, and more!

 When will the sessions be held at Impression 5?

  • Session 3:  Saturday, Nov. 21, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (bring a lunch!)
  • Session 6:  Saturday, Jan. 23, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (bring a lunch!)
  • Session 7:  Saturday, Jan. 30, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (bring a lunch!)

What are the details for these sessions?

  • Drop off your child between 8:45 - 9:00 AM. There will be a check-in station for ASMP kids.
  •  Pick up your child right at 4:00 PM. A parent or person authorized on the emergency contact form will need to come inside I-5 to get your child. Students will NOT be allowed to wait outside for parents.
  •  Send your child with a sack lunch - please do not send anything that needs heating. Foods needing to be kept cool should be sent in an insulated lunch bag.
  •  Students may want to purchase something from the I-5 gift shop. We encourage students to do this at the "celebration" (final) session on January 31. At that time, parents will be given 6-month family memberships to I-5 which give a discount on gift shop purchases.

From the South (Jackson, Mason, etc.):

127 North to I-496 west

I-496 to Pennsylvania Ave Exit #7, follow Larch St. ramp.

Turn right on to Larch St. (north) to Michigan Ave.

Turn left (west) onto to Michigan Ave.

Turn left (south) onto the Museum Drive.

 From the Southwest (Battle Creek, Charlotte, etc.):

I-69 North to I-496 East

Take the Cedar St.-Larch St./ Pennsylvania Ave, Exit #7.

Take Larch St. north to Michigan Ave.

Turn left (west) onto to Michigan Ave.

Turn left (south) onto the Museum Drive.

 From the West (Grand Rapids, etc):

I-96 east to (Exit 95) I-496 east.

Take the Cedar St.-Larch St./ Pennsylvania Ave, Exit #7.

Take Larch St. north to Michigan Ave.

Turn left (west) onto to Michigan Ave.

Turn left (south) onto the Museum Drive.

 From the North (Mt. Pleasant, Midland, etc.):

127 south to I-496 west to Downtown Lansing. I-496 to Pennsylvania Ave Exit #7, follow Larch St. ramp.

Turn right on to Larch St. head north to Michigan Ave.

Turn left (west) onto to Michigan Ave.

Turn left (south) onto the Museum Drive.

From the Northeast (Bay City, Flint, Saginaw, etc.):

I-69 west to 127 south.

127 south to I-496 west to Downtown Lansing.

I-496 to Pennsylvania Ave Exit #7, follow Larch St. ramp.

Turn right on to Larch St. head north to Michigan Ave.

Turn left (west) onto to Michigan Ave.
